There are five prayers which must be performed by the Muslims and are called obligatory prayers. It is a great sin to neglect performing any of these obligatory prayers.

The Prophet Muḥammad ṣallâ lLâhou `alayhi wa sallam, in the Hadîth related by al-Bukhāriyy, said:
« مَنْ يُرِد اللهُ به خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ في الدِّينِ إِنمَّا العِلْمُ بالتَّعَلُّمِ والْفِقْهُ بالتَّفَقُّهِ »
which means: « Whomever Allâh willed goodness for makes him knowledgeable in the Religion. Certainly the science of religion is acquired by oral transmission ». See : Importance of acquiring Islamic Knowledge by Oral Transmission
